Celebrate the Chinese New Year with Sing Kee

There is no such thing as being too prepared! That is why we are bringing the Chinese New Year to you a little earlier than usual, to give you the time to organise your celebrations and enjoy the moments that come with this special time of the year.

2022 - The year of the tiger

The tiger is the third symbol in the Chinese zodiac system. Legend has it that the Tiger boasted so much confidence that he was certain he would be unbeatable in the celestial race, however, this mighty creature was fooled by two unexpected contestants - the rat and the ox. The ox came in second place, thanks to its diligence, whilst the rat claimed first place as a result of its cunning nature!

People born within the tiger years are said to be self-confident, ambitious, daring and courageous - just like their zodiac animal! These years include; 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010 and 2022.

Make sure your new year is full of fortune

If the Chinese New Year 2022 is your year, here are a few things to look out for when trying to attract positive energy and fortune into your life;

  • The colours blue and green
  • The numbers 1,3 and 7
  • Plum and blossom flowers
  • Northern directions

However, if you find yourself surrounded by the colour white, or start to notice the numbers 4 and 9 more frequently, be conscious that some unlucky news may be heading your way…

Many people believe that staple items within Chinese cuisine also hold the value of luck and prosperity.

Some of the most traditional ingredients considered within this lucky list are dumplings! Dumplings are said to represent wealthiness, according to some, the more dumplings you eat during the new year celebrations, the more money you will make! But before diving into these tasty treats, the phrase ‘Zhāo cái jìn bǎo’, (which means “Bringing in wealth and treasure”), must be repeated by everyone at the dinner table.

So, why not discover the wide variety of dumpling flavours that are stocked here at Sing Kee, to set you on your road to wealth!

Other foods which are said to bring positive aspects into your life are spring rolls - also known as ‘a tonne of gold’ during the new year. As well as noodles which are believed to bring longevity!
