In recent months it is likely that you have come across vivid green coffees and cakes filling your local coffee shop, as the in-trend relative to traditional green tea has hit stores and homes worldwide. This secret ingredient is also known as matcha green tea!

At Sing Kee Leeds we want to share with you the health benefits and tasty treats that come from this Japanese drinking delight!

What is matcha tea

The creation of Matcha tea comes from the picking of fresh tea leaves which are then ground into a fine powder. This powder is mixed with hot water to form a bright green liquid. This process differs from the traditional method which infuses warm water with tea leaves and then removes them after a few minutes.

To achieve this bright green colour, a little bit of science is needed. The growth process of matcha powder involved planting green tea bushes in well-shaded areas and grinding them in a dark space, this is done to increase the amount of chlorophyll that is produced within the leaves.

Lovers of this Japanese refreshment believe to consume matcha green tea allows drinkers to appreciate the true taste of the plant.

Matcha tea benefits

Researchers suggest that drinking matcha comes with a wide range of health benefits.

Cancer Prevention:

The green tea powder is celebrated for its extremely high levels of antioxidants such as Epigallocatechin Gallate. This antioxidant is reported to have shown cures for cancer as they can help to stabilize cells in the risk of damage and reduce the size of tumours.

Weight Loss:

Matcha also has additional links to weight loss as your metabolism and fat burning mechanisms can be increased after consuming these miracle-working green tea leaves.

Boost Brain Performance:

Further research into Matcha tea has shown that those who drink it on a regular basis have seen an increase in brain performance. Elements of this include higher concentration levels and better memory over a longer period.
