What does Baijiu taste like?

Due to its strong and complex taste, Baijiu may take some time to get used to! For an unfamiliar palate, it may be hard to pinpoint the exact taste of Baijiu, but it has been described as smooth, floral, savoury, and fruity.

Baijiu is commonly drunk with food, during business meetings, and in general when building relationships. Drinking and familiarising yourself with Baijiu is a big step in emerging yourself with the rich Chinese culture!

Introducing Sing Kee’s new liquor range

Here at Sing Kee, we are excited to have added three new spirits to our liquor range. If you are yet to experience China’s drinking culture, allow us to introduce our three baijiu liquors.

Chinese Baijiu – Wu Liang Ye

Directly translating into ‘five-grain liquor’, Wu Liang Ye (52%) is a luxury white spirit that has been made from broomcorn, glutinous rice, wheat, rice, and corn.

It was created during the Ming Dynasty and is now China’s best selling luxury product. It is often enjoyed with food, sipped neat, or mixed in cocktails to better suit the Western palate.

Wu Liang Ye has a pungent aroma that may first take you by surprise. Its taste carries notes of pineapple, liquorice and soy sauce with a finish that is very dry and lingering with an alcohol burn.

Chinese Baijiu

Here comes the game-changer of Chinese Baijiu! Jiangxiaobao (40%) is one of the youngest brands of Baijiu, packing a punch of youthful, creative energy.
While traditional, stronger Baijiu shots may feel like sipping on razor blades, Jiangxiaobao’s Baijiu is made from high-quality sorghum in the Sichuan province.
It is an easier taste, verging on exotically beautiful. Jiangxiaobao can be drunk neat, but it may shine even brighter when mixed in cocktails.

Hongxing Erguotou Baijiu

Hongxing Erguotou (56%) is a famous, light aroma Baijiu. It is made from red sorghum, barley, pure water, and peas.

Red Star Erguotou has a rich history of 800 years, and it is made by using traditional brewing techniques.

Hongxing Erguotou’s taste is tantalising with sweet, fragrant, and crisp notes with a lingering aftertaste.
