Japanese Recipe Ideas

Like many Asian cuisines, Japanese food involves various plates and a multitude of flavours to share. The dishes are also usually beautifully presented to set the scene for the ultimate date night. 

Our favourite Valentine’s Day dish is sushi! The beauty of this dish is that you can accommodate to various tastes and as a sharable dinner option, it is great for conversation and breaking the ice.

Homemade Sushi Recipe

Ingredients: 

6 sheets of nori 
1 batch of prepared sushi rice 
½ lb of raw salmon
4oz cream cheese
1 sliced avocado
Soy sauce 

Method:


1. Simply place the nori sheets onto a bamboo mat, cover the sheet with a smooth layer of sushi rice

2. Next, layer the salmon, cream cheese and avocado on top of the rice

3. Roll into a tight sausage shape and cut with a sharp knife to form the classic sushi shape

4. Serve with soy sauce and enjoy!

Valentine’s Day Desserts

A delicate dessert to serve at your at-home restaurant are cherry blossom mochis presented in a pink colour to make the boys wink…

Ingredients:
180ml sweet glutinous rice 
¾ cup water
1 drop red food colouring
1tbsp sugar
5 tbsp red bean paste 

Method: 
1. Rinse the rice and leave to soak for at least 1 hour

2. With wet hands, grab the red bean paste and roll into 6 small balls

3. Drain the rice and pour into a large bowl

4. Add the water and food colouring to the rice and mix

5. Cover the bowl with cling film and cook into the microwave for 6 minutes

6. Remove the cling film and place a kitchen towel over the top for 5 minutes

7. Add sugar to the rice and mix well

8. Using a pestle, mix the rice until sticky

9. Place onto the surface of cling film and form into a rectangle shape, add a dash of water to help

10. Put the bean paste ball into the centre and roll the rice over to cover, then tighten the plastic and twist to form an oval shape

11. Remove from plastic and enjoy!
